What is Zeolite?
Zeolite is a natural mineral with a negative charge and zeolitic cage like structure. It was formed over millions of years when volcanic ask settled onto alkaline seas and lakes. In the end, what was developed was a highly porous crystalline structure. Zeolite is an alkaline mineral that is very porous and has a negative charge. Since most toxins, such as heavy metals, radiation, and pesticides, are positively charged, zeolite is pulled to the toxins, like a magnet, and sucks them up into its structure. Used in a variety of applications around the farm including the detoxification of heavy metals, chemicals, mycotoxins, pathogenic bacteria, viruses and even radioactive isotopes within livestock prior to them entering the food chain. Zeolite has been classed as an animal feed additive which helps aid in the digestion of feed allowing for better nutrient uptake and reduced feed bills. In the United States Zeolites are used in water filtration, air purification, animal feed and fertilizers to keep crops healthy. Zeolite has been used for more than 800 years in traditional medicine to improve general health in India, China, Russia and nearly every part of Asia.
Zeolite Applications
There are a large number of uses for Zeolite (Clinoptilolite) so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. We supply Zeolite as an Animal Feed Grade in various particle sizes. Zeolite powders are an all natural product that have an incredible number of uses:
-
Agriculture and Gardening: Zeolite (Clinoptilolite) from ClearOFF Minerals has a varied range of applications and uses including soil conditioning to remove heavy metals, radiation, pesticides and other toxins, improves drainage and also replenishes essential minerals. Reduces fly hatch and flying insect larvae in soil.
-
Livestock, Horses and Pets: Animal Feed Grade Zeolite supplies essential trace minerals while detoxifying harmful heavy metals, chemicals, mycotoxins, pathogenic bacteria, viruses and even radioactive isotopes. It also removes xenoestrogenic molecules which come from plastics, pesticides, and herbicides. Aids in discouraging disease and ill health. Detoxifies livestock ready for human consumption.
-
Beauty & Spa: Zeolite of around 300 microns is often used as a skin exfoliant and detox prior to the application of healing clays such as Calcium and Sodium Bentonite. And as a treatment for rosacea, acne and general skin blemishes.
-
Health and wellbeing: In oral health preperations for the treatment of ulcers, gum disease, etc. As a detoxification agent and mineral supplement.
-
For Oral Health: Because of it’s excellent ability to bind to heavy metals, toxins and microorganisms it makes an excellent mouthwash for the treatment of halitosis or bad breath. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of Zeolite in 1/4 cup water in a small jar with a plastic lid and shake well. Rinse with the water for 1-2 minutes and repeat until there is no more remaining.
-
For Pets: For pets that are sick, vomiting or showing signs of illness, you can add Zeolite to their water or mix and give orally with a dropper or syringe (without needle). Zeolite will help remove poisons and toxins from the body and can save a poisoned animals life when given orally.
-
Zeolites are used internally to help reduce radiation exposure, in alternative cancer treatments, and in MRSA infections. It is also said to greatly help in Parasite removal.
Our Zeolite is the clinoptilolite form and comes in particle sizes 25, 40, 100 and 300 micron. The smaller the number the smaller the particle. 100 microns is the consistancy of flour while 300 microns is nearer the consistancy of caster sugar. 40 and 25 microns is similar to a very fine talc.
Ingesting Zeolite
A person who observes nature can witness the fact that animals instinctively use earth to cure themselves. Indeed, we owe much of our discovery in this field to animals. Thanks to a chemical reaction between the ash from the volcano and the salt from the sea, amazing minerals like zeolites are formed in the hardened lava over the course of thousands of years. What makes zeolites so amazing is the fact that it’s not only one of the few negatively-charged minerals found in nature, but it also has a very unique structure. Zeolites have large, vacant spaces––or cages––that allow space for large, positively charged ions to be attracted to it, then trapped and eliminated from the body. The silicon building block in Zeolite is electrically neutral, but the aluminum building block carries a negative charge, which creates charged sites throughout the entire crystal structure. A three-dimensional framework produces net negative charge that traps environmental pollutants and is balanced by the exchangeable cations Calcium, Magnesuim, Phosphate. The clinoptilolite attracts positive minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and iron. These common positive cations then are displaced by heavy metals such as cadmium, mercury, nickel, and arsenic and removed safely from the body.
Smaller Ions such as Mercury and Cadmium are pulled deeply into the cage of the zeolite and held securely for safe elimination. Zeolite is great to have as part of a water filtration system because it helps remove toxins and excess H+ that contribute to an acidic state. Acidic water can have inflammatory effects in the body while neutral or slightly alkaline water has been shown to have significant health benefits.
-
Allows for selective chelation: Hg > Pb > Sn > Cd > As > Al > Sb > Fe > Ni verified by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
-
Clinical Studies in “normal” volunteers: 5-7 fold increase urinary excretion within 1 week
-
Clinical Studies in coal miners: 12-15 fold increases in urinary excretion & decreases in hair levels of toxic metals
Some of the reported potential benefits of daily consumption of Zeolite include:
-
Removing toxic heavy metals (uranium, aluminum, lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium etc). This improves enzyme function.
-
Can assist to detoxify bacteria, viruses, e-coli and other toxins such as xenoestrogenic molecules which come from plastics, pesticides, and herbicides.
-
Improving immune system function by removing toxins and chemicals, so that (for example) colds and influenza are less likely to occur.
-
Improving pH levels so that infectious organisms have a less favorable environment for survival.
-
Trapping protons in the digestive tract, making acid reflux less troublesome.
-
Remedies other digestive disturbances like constipation, bloating, gas, etc.
-
Traps allergens in the blood and digestive tract, thus decreasing symptoms from inhaled and swallowed antigens.
-
Completely non-toxic, no potential for microorganisms to gain immunity over time.
-
Possibly stopping diarrhea through its absorptive action in the intestines.
-
Speeds recovery from vomiting, diarrhea and gastroenteritis.
-
Improving nutrient absorption.
-
Provides essential trace minerals – beneficial for all animals including mammals.
-
Cost effective health supplement resulting in higher yields, reduced animal stress and often reduced vet bills.
Zeolite Dosage Rates
Recommended dosage rates for animals and livestock:
-
Kittens - 1 teaspoon per day
-
Adult Cats - 1 to 2 teaspoons per day
-
Puppies - 1 to 2 teaspoons p/day dependent upon size and breed
-
Small Dogs under 15kg - 2 teaspoon per day
-
Medium Dogs 15kg to 35kg - 2 tablespoon per day
-
Large Dogs over 35 to 50kg - 3 to 4 tablespoons per day

Two legged mammals - 1 to 2 heaped tablespoons + per day
The above dosages are only a guideline and should be adjusted depending on the situation. You cannot overdose your animals on Zeolite but not feeding enough will not produce the desired effects. For Storage - We recommend you store your Zeolite in a non metallic airtight container upon receipt of your shipped product. Zeolite powders, water and humidity don't mix from a storage perspective and keeping your Zeolite dry until use will be beneficial to it's efficiency and long term storage.
Disclaimer
Although many of our customers purchase this mineral for human internal consumption we are not legally permitted to recommend doing so. This is due to the fact that we are mineral suppliers and not licensed nutritionists, health food advisers or doctors. Some minerals can have an effect on certain medication etc, thus making recommending consumption a dangerous practice.
Our Zeolites are an animal feed grade product as used in horticulture and livestock farming. They do not contain any harmful levels of toxins such as Mercury, Lead or Arsenic. We provide a full breakdown of the chemical analysis on the mineral information page thus allowing the customer to make their own informed decision regarding its intended use.
Please note that we have yet to find a 'Codex' Food Grade Zeolite available to purchase in this country. You will find companies in other countries claiming 'Food Grade' but often their countries standards are lower than those in the UK. In the UK minerals intendedfor human consumption have to be tested in a government regulated CODEX lab, in small batches (an expensive process for what is often the same mineral, from the same source, sold in other countries as Food Grade). In the US for example, the mineral can be tested in any laboratory and the limits allowed are considerably higher than ours.
